Returning Authors

Returning Authors
Continue Building Your Publishing Legacy
Authors who return to Huggins Publishers bring valuable experience from their earlier publication. Because we already understand their work, audience and publication history, the next project can often move forward with greater clarity and efficiency.
Every new manuscript still receives an independent assessment, written offer and publishing agreement.

Who Is a Returning Author?
A returning author is someone who has previously completed at least one publication with Huggins Publishers and is submitting another manuscript for consideration.
Returning-author status does not automatically guarantee that a new manuscript will be accepted.

Advantages of Returning
Depending on the project and publishing agreement, returning authors may benefit from:
• An established working relationship
• Familiarity with the publishing process
• More efficient project onboarding
• Reuse of approved author information
• Consistency across book designs
• Series-branding opportunities
• Preferred package pricing for qualifying projects
• Priority scheduling where available
• Easier connection to an existing author profile
• Cross-promotion with previously published titles
• Progress toward Huggins Author Club eligibility
All benefits remain subject to manuscript acceptance, availability and the written publishing offer.

Every New Manuscript Is Assessed
A previously successful publication does not remove the need for assessment.
Each new manuscript is reviewed for:
• Editorial condition
• Structure and organization
• Intended audience
• Subject and genre
• Word count and expected page range
• Copyright and permissions concerns
• Production requirements
• Relationship to earlier titles
• Suitability for the Huggins Publishers catalogue
• Practical production schedule
The manuscript may require a different package from the author’s previous book.

Submit the Most Complete Version
Returning authors should submit a complete and organized manuscript rather than relying on material from a previous project.
The submission should include:
• Final working title and subtitle
• Complete manuscript in one editable file
• Chapters in the correct order
• Updated author biography
• Current author photograph, if changed
• Proposed book description
• Tables, images or illustrations
• Citation or reference material
• Permissions documentation
• Series information, where applicable
Authors should keep a secure backup of every submitted file.

Updated Publishing Offer
If the new manuscript is accepted, Huggins Publishers provides a new written offer stating:
• Included publishing services
• Fixed package price
• Available payment pathway
• Royalty arrangement
• Production responsibilities
• Estimated workflow
• Approval requirements
• Publication formats
• Distribution plan
• Relevant contractual terms
Terms from a previous book do not automatically apply to a new project unless they are confirmed in the new agreement.

Preferred Pricing
Qualifying returning authors may receive preferred package pricing as recognition of the established publishing relationship.
The applicable price depends on:
• Manuscript length
• Editorial condition
• Required services
• Book format
• Design complexity
• Images, tables or special features
• Production schedule
• Current publishing-package structure
The final price is confirmed in writing before work begins.

No Unexpected Editorial Charges
Editorial work included in the signed package is covered by the agreed fixed price.
Huggins Publishers does not add unexpected editorial charges for work already included within the signed scope. Any genuinely new work outside that scope must be explained and approved in writing before it begins.

Payment Pathways
Depending on the project and written agreement, a returning author may be offered:
• Payment of the agreed fee before production
• An approved deferred-recovery arrangement using initial Net Publishing Receipts
• A written payment schedule, where specifically approved
Deferred recovery is subject to approval and may use different terms from those offered for an earlier publication.

Royalty Terms
The author’s royalty percentage and the definition of Net Publishing Receipts are stated in the new publishing agreement.
Royalty arrangements may vary according to:
• Publishing pathway
• Upfront or deferred payment choice
• Sales channel
• Printing and fulfilment costs
• Distribution requirements
• Book format
• Other agreed project terms
Authors should not assume that a previous royalty rate automatically applies to the new book.

Building a Consistent Author Brand
Returning authors can strengthen recognition by maintaining consistency across their books.
This may include:
• Consistent author-name presentation
• Coordinated cover design
• Series titles and numbering
• Similar interior design
• Updated author biography
• Unified visual branding
• Cross-references between books
• A consolidated author webpage
• Bundled or thematic promotions
Consistency is especially useful when books form a series or address related subjects.
Series Publishing
Authors planning a series should discuss the full concept before production begins.
Series planning may consider:
• Series title
• Number and order of books
• Shared cover style
• Consistent trim size
• Interior-design standards
• Individual ISBNs
• Publication schedule
• Common audience
• Cross-promotion strategy
• Long-term pricing
Each book remains a separate publication and normally requires its own assessment, agreement, ISBN and final approval.

Updating Existing Author Information
Returning authors should advise Huggins Publishers of any changes to:
• Legal or published name
• Mailing address
• Email address
• Telephone number
• Payment information
• Tax information
• Biography
• Professional title
• Photograph
• Website and social-media links
Updated information helps prevent publishing, payment and communication delays.

Author Profile and Cross-Promotion
A returning author’s profile may be updated to display multiple books published through Huggins Publishers.
Cross-promotion may include:
• Links between related books
• Multiple-title author pages
• Website collections
• Suggested companion titles
• Author interviews
• Social-media features
• Launch announcements
• Book bundles, where appropriate
Promotional placement depends on availability, suitability and the agreed marketing support.

Approvals Remain Essential
Returning authors must still review and approve:
• Edited manuscript
• Interior design
• Copyright page
• Cover design
• ISBN and metadata
• Book description
• Retail price
• Digital proof
• Physical proof, where required
• Final publication files
Familiarity with the process does not replace careful review.

Author Responsibilities
Returning authors are expected to:
• Submit complete and accurate material
• Respond within agreed timelines
• Review files carefully
• Provide required permissions
• Communicate changes promptly
• Participate in appropriate promotion
• Maintain professional conduct
• Keep account and payment information current
• Fulfil obligations under existing agreements
Unresolved obligations from an earlier project may delay consideration of a new manuscript.

Progressing Toward the Author Club
A returning author with at least three active qualifying publications through Huggins Publishers may become eligible for the Huggins Author Club.
Author Club benefits may include:
• Enhanced author profile
• Consolidated book listings
• Priority consideration for selected promotions
• Access to available author resources
• Limited sales and royalty reporting access
• Preferred consideration for qualifying future projects
Author Club eligibility is reviewed according to the program requirements.
