Frequently Asked Questions
These answers explain the general publishing practices of Huggins Publishers. Every accepted project is governed by its written proposal and signed publishing agreement. Where an agreement differs from this page, the signed agreement applies.
Does Huggins Publishers accept every manuscript?
No. Every manuscript is assessed for quality, completeness, purpose, audience, production requirements and alignment with our publishing mission. Submission does not guarantee acceptance or publication.
Must my manuscript be complete before submission?
We prefer complete manuscripts. A partial manuscript may be considered for an initial consultation, but a publishing offer normally requires a complete manuscript that can be assessed accurately.
What types of books do you publish?
We consider works in areas such as faith, theology, leadership, education, memoir, motivation, personal development, culture, social transformation and other subjects that contribute to knowledge and lasting legacy.
Acceptance depends on the individual manuscript and available publishing capacity.
Do I retain the copyright to my book?
Yes. Unless a different arrangement is expressly stated in writing, the author retains copyright ownership. The author grants Huggins Publishers the permissions required to edit, produce, publish, distribute and promote the book according to the signed agreement.
What is included in Professional Publishing?
The exact services are listed in the author’s written offer. Depending on the project, they may include manuscript assessment, professional editing and proofreading, interior formatting, cover design, metadata preparation, ISBN support, Lulu publication setup, Shopify bookstore setup and basic launch guidance.
What qualifies as a Ready to Publish manuscript?
A Ready to Publish manuscript must already be professionally edited, proofread and production-ready. Any supplied interior or cover files must meet the required technical specifications.
Huggins Publishers will inspect the submitted files before confirming eligibility. A manuscript requiring substantial corrections may be redirected to Professional Publishing.
Do you charge additional editorial fees?
The publishing offer provides a fixed price for the agreed scope of work. Huggins Publishers does not add unexpected editorial charges for services already included in that scope.
Work outside the signed scope—such as major rewriting, additional formats or substantial author-requested changes after approval—will not begin without a separate written quotation and author approval.
Can I pay after the book has been published?
Qualifying authors may be offered FlexPay. Under this option, Huggins Publishers begins recovery of the agreed balance from the book’s sales after publication.
FlexPay is not a grant or a guarantee of sales. The author remains responsible for the recoverable amount under the terms of the signed agreement.
How are royalties calculated?
Royalties are calculated from Net Publishing Receipts rather than the advertised retail price. Net Publishing Receipts are the funds actually received after applicable deductions such as taxes, refunds, discounts, retailer commissions, printing, fulfilment, shipping and payment-processing costs.
The author’s royalty percentage is stated in the publishing agreement.
When are royalty statements issued?
Royalty statements and eligible payments are normally prepared quarterly. Each statement may show units sold, sales received, deductions, Net Publishing Receipts, the applicable royalty and any FlexPay balance.
Will I need to complete tax or payment forms for every book?
Usually, no. Author identity, banking and tax information is generally established for the author or publishing relationship rather than completed again for every title.
However, updated forms may be required when information changes, a new platform or distributor requests documentation, a form expires, or legal and tax requirements change.
Will my book be sold on the Huggins Publishers website?
Accepted and published titles may be listed in the Huggins Publishers Shopify bookstore. Product availability depends on successful publication, pricing, fulfilment setup and completion of the required product information.
Does Huggins Publishers use print-on-demand?
Yes. Books may be produced through Lulu or another approved print and distribution service. Print-on-demand allows copies to be manufactured when orders are placed, reducing the need for large inventories.
Will my book automatically appear on Amazon and other retailers?
Not necessarily. Retail distribution depends on the selected publishing arrangement, ISBN setup, distribution eligibility and approval by third-party retailers.
No retailer is obligated to list or continue listing a title. Any distribution service included in the project will be stated in writing.
Do I have to purchase copies of my own book?
No compulsory author-copy purchase is required unless a specific quantity has been agreed in writing. Authors may order personal copies at the applicable author or production cost plus shipping and taxes.
Who determines the retail price?
Huggins Publishers recommends a retail price after considering printing cost, fulfilment expenses, market expectations, retailer requirements and the desired royalty margin. The final pricing arrangement is confirmed with the author.
How long does publishing take?
The schedule depends on manuscript length, editorial requirements, design complexity, author response time, permissions, corrections and printer approval. A project-specific schedule is provided in the written offer or publishing agreement.
Can I request changes after approving the final files?
Changes requested after final approval may delay publication and may require a separate quotation if they fall outside the original scope. Authors should therefore review every file carefully before giving written approval.
Does Huggins Publishers guarantee sales?
No. Publishing and distribution do not guarantee sales, income, reviews, media attention or bestseller status. Results depend on the book, market demand, pricing, discoverability and sustained promotional effort by both the author and publisher.
What is the Huggins Author Dashboard?
Authors with at least three active Huggins Publishers titles may qualify for Legacy Author Club status and access to the Huggins Author Dashboard.
The dashboard may provide private access to title information, available sales data, royalty statements and author resources. It does not create a separate Shopify store for each author and does not replace official royalty statements.
How do I submit my manuscript?
Use the Submit Manuscript page and provide the requested manuscript and project information. Please ensure that the manuscript is complete, readable and accompanied by accurate contact details.
