Print-on-Demand and Distribution

Print-on-Demand and Distribution
Professional Printing Without Large Inventory
Huggins Publishers uses print-on-demand technology to make professional book production more accessible. Instead of requiring authors to purchase hundreds of copies in advance, books can be printed when orders are received.
This approach reduces initial inventory costs, storage requirements and the risk of keeping unsold books.

What Is Print-on-Demand?
Print-on-demand, commonly called POD, is a production system in which individual books or small quantities are printed after an order is placed.
Depending on the selected publishing arrangement, POD can support:
• Individual customer orders
• Author-copy orders
• Small quantities for events
• Direct website sales
• Retail and wholesale distribution eligibility
• International printing and fulfilment where available
Print-on-demand does not mean that every book is automatically stocked in physical bookstores.

Our Lulu Publishing Partnership
Huggins Publishers primarily uses Lulu as its print-on-demand production and fulfilment platform.
Lulu can provide:
• Paperback and hardcover production
• Black-and-white or colour interior printing
• Multiple trim sizes and binding options
• Printing of individual copies
• Bulk author-copy ordering
• Order fulfilment
• Shipping to supported destinations
• Integration with Shopify through Lulu Direct
• Optional distribution services for eligible books
Lulu is an independent third-party platform. Its printing costs, production options, shipping fees, processing times and distribution requirements may change.

How Shopify and Lulu Direct Work Together
Books sold through the Huggins Publishers website may be connected to Lulu Direct.
The general process is:
• A customer orders a book from the Huggins Publishers Shopify store
• Shopify processes the customer’s payment
• The connected order is transmitted to Lulu Direct
• Lulu prints the ordered book
• Lulu packages and ships it to the customer
• Tracking information is provided when available
• The transaction is recorded for sales and royalty reporting
The connection must be tested and confirmed before a book is offered for sale.

Book Production Specifications
Before a book can be produced, the following details must be finalized:
• Trim size
• Binding type
• Interior colour selection
• Paper type
• Page count
• Bleed requirements
• Cover finish
• Interior PDF
• Full-cover PDF
• ISBN, where required
Changes to the page count, paper type or binding may alter the spine width, printing cost and final cover dimensions.

Proof Copies
Huggins Publishers normally recommends reviewing a physical proof copy before actively promoting a new book.
The proof review should examine:
• Cover alignment and colour
• Spine placement
• Image quality
• Text size and readability
• Margins and gutters
• Headers and page numbers
• Chapter openings
• Blank pages
• Printing defects
• Overall physical presentation
A digital preview is useful, but it cannot fully demonstrate how the printed book will look and feel.

Author Copies
Authors may order copies for:
• Personal use
• Book launches
• Speaking events
• Conferences
• Churches, schools or community organizations
• Direct signed-copy sales
• Review and promotional distribution
Author copies are generally purchased separately at the applicable printing and shipping cost. Quantity discounts may depend on the printer and order size.
Authors should allow sufficient production and delivery time before scheduling an event.

Direct Sales Through Huggins Publishers
Books published by Huggins Publishers may be listed in the Books section of the company website.
A product listing may include:
• Cover image
• Book title and subtitle
• Author name
• Book description
• Format
• Retail price
• Availability
• Purchase button
• Shipping information
Website listing is subject to the publishing agreement, technical readiness and final approval of the book.

Extended Distribution
Some eligible books may be submitted for wider distribution through Lulu’s available distribution network.
Extended distribution may make book information available to participating wholesalers, online retailers, libraries or booksellers. However, availability in a distributor’s catalogue does not guarantee that a retailer or physical bookstore will stock, display or promote the book.
Distribution eligibility may depend on:
• ISBN ownership and registration
• Approved book format
• Trim size and binding
• Retail price
• Wholesale discount
• Metadata quality
• File compliance
• Platform content requirements
• Proof approval
• Distribution-market availability
Retailers and distributors retain control over their own listings, pricing displays and purchasing decisions.

Bookstore Placement
Print-on-demand distribution and physical bookstore placement are not the same service.
Physical bookstore placement may require:
• Direct contact with the bookseller
• A professional sales presentation
• Market demand
• Returnability
• A wholesale discount
• Local-author arrangements
• Consignment terms
• Promotional support
• Demonstrated reader interest
Huggins Publishers does not guarantee placement in any particular bookstore.

Printing and Shipping Costs
Printing and shipping charges vary according to:
• Book size
• Page count
• Colour or black-and-white printing
• Paper type
• Binding
• Cover finish
• Quantity
• Destination
• Delivery method
• Applicable taxes and customs charges
These costs may change when Lulu or another service provider updates its pricing.

Delivery Times
Estimated delivery includes production time and transit time. Delivery dates are estimates and may be affected by:
• Order volume
• Printing delays
• Weather
• Courier disruptions
• Customs processing
• Incorrect addresses
• Remote destinations
• Holidays and peak seasons
Authors and customers should order early when books are required for a particular event.
International Orders
International fulfilment may be available for supported countries. Customers may be responsible for customs duties, import taxes, brokerage fees or other charges imposed by the destination country.
The availability and cost of international shipping are determined during checkout and may differ by destination.
Returns and Damaged Books
Because print-on-demand books are manufactured in response to an order, returns for buyer preference may be limited.
If a book arrives damaged or contains a confirmed manufacturing defect, the customer should promptly provide:
• Order number
• Description of the problem
• Clear photographs of the book
• Photograph of the packaging, where relevant
• Shipping label information
The claim will be reviewed according to the applicable Huggins Publishers, Shopify, Lulu and carrier policies.

Availability and Platform Changes
Huggins Publishers relies on independent printing, ecommerce, payment, shipping and distribution providers. A book’s availability may be affected by platform updates, production restrictions, account reviews or service interruptions.
Where reasonably possible, Huggins Publishers will communicate material changes affecting an author’s publication.

Make Your Book Available to Readers
Print-on-demand allows authors to publish professionally without maintaining a large inventory. Submit your manuscript for assessment to determine the most appropriate production and distribution pathway for your book.
