Your Book Moves Through Ten Clear Stages
Huggins Publishers follows a structured and transparent process designed to move an accepted manuscript from submission to professional publication. The exact services, responsibilities, costs and schedule for each project are confirmed in writing before work begins.
1. Manuscript Submission
Submit your completed manuscript together with the requested author and project information. Your submission should include the working title, genre, approximate word count, intended audience and a short description of the book.
2. Manuscript Assessment
We review the manuscript for suitability, readiness, length, editorial requirements and production needs. Submission does not guarantee acceptance. We select projects that align with our publishing standards, values and available capacity.
3. Publishing Recommendation
Following the assessment, we recommend the most appropriate publishing pathway. This may be Professional Publishing, Ready to Publish or another customized arrangement.
4. Written Offer and Agreement
Accepted authors receive a written proposal describing:
• The services included
• The fixed package price
• The payment option
• The production schedule
• Author and publisher responsibilities
• Copyright ownership and permissions
• Royalties and reporting
• Approval requirements
• Distribution arrangements
Work begins only after the agreement has been signed and any required initial payment has been received.
5. Editing and Author Revision
Professional Publishing projects proceed through the editorial service stated in the agreement. The author reviews the edited manuscript, considers the recommended changes and returns the approved or revised document within the agreed timeframe.
Ready to Publish manuscripts may proceed directly to production after technical inspection.
6. Interior and Cover Design
After the manuscript is approved, we prepare the book’s interior layout and cover according to the selected format and printer specifications. We also prepare or confirm essential metadata, including the title, subtitle, author name, description, categories, keywords and ISBN information.
7. Author Approvals
The author receives the relevant production files for review. Written approval is required for the edited manuscript, interior layout, cover design, metadata and final proof.
The author is responsible for carefully checking names, quotations, dates, references, permissions and factual information before approving publication.
8. Publication Through Lulu
The approved interior and cover files are uploaded to Lulu. The files undergo technical review, and a print proof may be ordered when required. Necessary corrections are completed before the book is approved for publication or distribution.
9. Shopify Store Setup
After publication, the book is added to the Huggins Publishers Shopify store. The setup may include:
• Product title and description
• Cover image
• Retail price
• Inventory or print-on-demand settings
• Shipping information
• Books collection placement
• Homepage feature
• A Buy Now or Shop Books button
• Connection to Lulu Direct when applicable
The product and purchasing links are tested before the book is publicly announced.
10. Launch, Sales and Reporting
Once the product page and fulfilment process have been confirmed, the book becomes available for sale. Huggins Publishers may support the launch according to the services listed in the agreement.
Authors receive quarterly sales and royalty statements showing applicable sales, deductions, Net Publishing Receipts, royalty calculations and eligible payments.
What Authors Must Provide
To keep the project moving efficiently, authors are expected to:
• Submit a complete manuscript and accurate information
• Respond to editorial and production questions promptly
• Review all files carefully
• Obtain permission for copyrighted material
• Meet agreed revision and approval deadlines
• Keep contact, payment and tax information current
• Participate actively in promoting their book
Estimated Production Time
Production time varies according to manuscript length, editorial requirements, author response time, design complexity and printer approval. A project-specific schedule is included in the written agreement.
Delays in receiving revisions, permissions, information or approvals may extend the publication date.
